IMAGINE You Can Roll Up Your Television And Take It With You On The Go! LG Says This Could Be A Reality By 2017.

South Korea based LG Electronics has unveiled two new 18-inch OLED panels — one that's rollable and another that's transparent. According to LG, the flexible OLED panel has a high-definition class resolution of 1,200 by 810. It can be rolled up to a radius of 3 centimeters without affecting the function of the display.

LG says it used "high molecular substance-based polyimide film" as the backplane of the panel instead of traditional plastic which makes it so flexible. The polyimide film helped reduce the thickness of the panel to "significantly improve its flexibility."

As for the transparent panel (pictured below), it boasts of the company's 'Transparent Pixel design Technology' which refers to the amount of light that can pass through the screen. That's far better than the usual 10 percent transmittance of existing transparent LCD panels, meaning you'll be able to see objects behind the screen more clearly.

Check it out the rollable panel video here:

However, with LG other electronic giants such as Samsung and Apple have been already working towards developing flexible smartphone/tablet display panels. With LG's latest displays offering, we should get to see the curved OLED displays in major retail stores across the globe, all is set to officially launch by 2017.

Its forward canted windshield is not just for show, but contributes to an estimated 30% better view forward; helping to avoid pedestrians. It’s contemporary interior features lighting that will change depending on the time of day to affect the mood inside.

Heated steps at the entrance are planned to help ward off ice on cold winter days. And, it’s electric drivetrain will reportedly push it 50 kilometers on batteries alone.

Alexei Nosov, head of Uraltransmash, the subsidiary of UVZ that built the R1, said mass production (from exclusively Russian parts) could start in 2015, with eventual service in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Volgograd.

R1 is a prototype. It must pass the test. A lot of work is to be done before concept car can be put in mass production. It’s quite possible that in 2015 its mass production will start. Uraltransmash tram production facilities are being upgraded. These trams are expected to run in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhy Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Volgograd. There is a plan to develop a new tram that will run underground, on the basis of this concept”, said Alexey Nosov.
